Nico Rosberg sets the pace in free practice one for the Austrian GP of 2014.
Nico Rosberg managed to keep ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton in a rain-affected practice season after having some issues with the car. He was 0.14 seconds clear of Hamilton, with Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso third ahead of Williams’ Felipe Massa.
The was session punctuated by many incidents, including a spectacular double-spin by world champion Sebastian Vettel.
Jenson Button took fifth for McLaren, while Force Indias of Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg were sixth and seventh. Eighth place was taken by Valtteri Bottas ahead of Kevin Magnussen and the top ten was closed by Jean-Eric Vergne for Toro Rosso who along side Fernando Alonso was the only non Mercedes powered driver to make it in the top ten.
The Red Bulls of Canadian Grand Prix winner Daniel Ricciardo and Vettel were only 13th and 15th. Alonso’s team-mate Kimi Raikkonen was 11th, nearly 0.7secs down on the Spaniard.
