Norbert Haug is returning to motor racing.
Having lost his role as Mercedes’ motor sport chief, the 61-year-old found a new job at a German company specialising in vehicle mobility for disabled people. But Germany’s Bild newspaper now reports that Haug is set to be the new main pundit for the ARD broadcaster, in the German coverage of the DTM touring car series.
Haug would not confirm the news, but Bild claims the deal was agreed on Tuesday. Niki Lauda, the Mercedes chairman who is the face of German broadcaster RTL’s F1 coverage, said: “Norbert, welcome to the club! I am happy for him. “It is understandable that (Mercedes’ DTM rivals) BMW and Audi are not thrilled, but I have never had a problem with being objective. And Norbert will not either,” he insisted.
