A somewhat clearer picture of the pecking order emerged during the second free practice session in Canada when Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso managed to stay ahead of Lewis Hamilton, with just 0.012s gap between the two them.

The one and half hour session was run throughout a dry track after this morning’s wet-dry conditions, with Kimi Raikkonen initially leading the way for Lotus, followed by Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg.

If in the morning session Paul di Resta was the fastest man on track for Force India the things were a little more complicated this time around and no less than six drivers were able to set fastest times until everyone focused on the long run pace leaving Fernando Alonso at the top of the time sheet with 1:14.818s.

The Ferrari driver was closely followed by Lewis Hamilton for Mercedes and Romain Grosjean for Lotus while the top five was closed by Mark Webber on P4 for Red Bull and the Monaco GP winner Nico Rosberg stationed on P5 for Mercedes.
