Both Force India and Caterham F1 conducted straight line aero tests on Thursday in England.
The first team to put its F1 car to an aero test was Force India which took it’s VJM05 to the Cotswold airport formerly known as Kemble. The man behind the wheel was the American Conor Daly who won the last GP3 race.
His session was not complete boredom however because at some point a rabbit came along on the track and the driver had to avoid it. young driver joked on his twitter account:
“I must admit that the F1 engine sounds fantastic. I also had to avoid a rabbit in my last lap but it was fun. The prancing rabbit had its DRS fully open so I gave it a run for its money. Was a close race though!”
Meanwhile Caterham was doing a similar test at Duxford with Rodolfo Gonzales at the helm.
“He is one of our young drivers,” Team Manager Graham Watson began. “For him it will be a fantastic experience because he will get running in the car and also some understanding of how the car works aerodynamically.”
Every team is allowed to conduct eight straight line tests each season and data collected in this way is used to correlate information between the wind tunnel and the simulator.
Later this month, Caterham will stage a demonstration run on the streets of Dublin; on that occasion the other reserve driver, Giedo van der Garde who also races in GP2, will be in action in front of the Irish spectators.
