Formula 1’s 2013 season will open in Australia on March 17 and close in Brazil on Nov. 24, according to a provisional calendar submitted to teams in Singapore this weekend.
After weeks of uncertainty about the exact timing of the schedule for next season’s races, a first draft has now been put forward for a 20-race campaign next year. There are no big surprises in the schedule after Bernie Ecclestone revealed at the Hungarian Grand Prix that there would be 20 races – with the new Grand Prix of America in New Jersey set to replace Valencia.
The British Grand Prix is moving forward a week to take place on June 30, while there will be a lengthy summer break from the Hungarian GP on July 28 to the Belgian GP on Sept. 1. There remain question marks about some events, however, with the New Jersey, Singapore and Korean GPs all being on the calendar subject to contracts being finalized and the tracks being ready.
The calendar will be submitted for approval at the new meeting of the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council that takes place on Sept. 28.
